On the 10th September 2021, our Beaver, Cub and Scout sections embarked on the greatest adventure of the year so far! A night under canvas and a day of exciting and fun activities!

Our camp started with the tent pitching challenge on the Friday evening, 4 tents to go up before it go’s dark. All tents where up in no time! (with a little help from the leaders of course) followed by a hot-dog and hot chocolate supper, awesome, even for the leaders.

After supper it was all up the steps (the many, many, many steps!) torches on and up to the top field to play a game of man hunt. Time just seemed to fly by, and before we knew it, it was way past some of the leader’s bed times. Yes, even Jordan needs his uninterrupted beauty sleep!

The Saturday morning began in the way you might well expect. There are two types of people; 5AM’ers and not the not at all AM’ers. Majority of the leaders are in the not AM category, and majority of the young people are in the 5AM category, I can tell you, this makes for a very interesting morning. One of the beavers would tell you how much fun it was to bang together a set of pans to wake up the scouts (and also some of the leaders might I add) who decided they might as well be nocturnal!

Breakfast was a fine buffet of brioche, cereal and fruit juice and it was soon onto the first activity to craft a parachute, some toy soldiers made it, some not, and some will be most definitely lost forever.

After breakfast on Sunday it was down into the woods to build some dens (shelters) using just branches and fern leaves. The image on the left shows the den that they all worked extremely hard to build, this was before they decided they’d had enough of this, and preferred trying to steal Jordan’s chair.

When Jordan wouldn’t budge they realised that by working together as team, they could overthrow him and claim their victory. That’s one way to inspire team work I guess!

These woods are home to thousands of weird and wonderful creatures, and if you look ever so carefully enough at the image to your right, you may even be lucky enough to spot a turquoise ninja in disguise, or more commonly known as a beaver scout, and it looks like they’re hunting the Scouts.

Our beavers aren’t just brave, their absolutely crazy, and it helps that their leaders are barking Mad!

Here’s our beaver and cubs taking part in the waddecar challenge trail, answering questions and finding clues to the answers around the site.

We also all had a go at shooting some arrows in the afternoon! Even the beavers where able to give it ago!

Camp ended with some food and fires, what better way to finish a long day of adventure than making your very own pizza pocket with all your favourite toppings, and an ice cream cone studded with marshmallows and chocolate for dessert.

All in all, a fantastic night away enjoyed by all!
