Our Mission
We fully believe in supporting and developing young people to reach their full potential, enriching their lives with creative, skill, outdoor, adventure and leadership activities, teaching essential skills for life, and encouraging them to contribute to a better world for their future.
Our approach
Our leadership team, volunteers and supporters are committed to ensuring that each and every child gets the absolute most out of everything that scouting has to offer, in the safest and most enjoyable ways possible. We respect and champion diversity, and aim to create a space where everyone can be themselves without fear. We are proud of the rich cultural, social, educational, belief and personality differences that exist within our group. These differences bring about a scouting experience that is vibrant, where we can respect, appreciate and celebrate these unique individual traits that enrich our own lives with new perspectives, experiences and learning.
At our core
We recognise that we are part of a community that in some areas has high levels of deprivation and social need. Strongly, we believe that Scouting should be accessible to all young people regardless of the challenges that they and their families face in life. We carry forward our mission by ensuring that our approach supports such young people, and as a group, we have policy that does exactly that. Please do get in touch if accessing scouting is something that your child would like to do, but you feel your circumstances might be a barrier.
A little about our History
Launched in 2015 the aim of the group served to be a community outreach group supported by (but independent of) the Salvation Army in Preston. Over the years we’ve been around, our group has gone from strength to strength in providing a well needed resource to the young people living within the inner city. Our relationship with the Salvation Army is a very special one, and we’re ever grateful of the help and support they’ve provided over years, and we know no doubt will continue well into the future.
Our group is unique in it’s location, in that we regularly attracts volunteers from the university. Scouters from all over the country come to Preston to study and as one of the closest groups to the uni, these students enrich our group with new and diverse ways of scouting from elsewhere. They bring with them creative flair and specialist knowledge of the subjects they study, which helps us to provide a unique scouting experience.
A little more about our future
The future for Preston Central Scout Group is looking bright. COVID has been a particular difficult time that has reaped havoc on the lives of millions of people across the globe, and some of the people that we hold near and dear. As a group we’ve pushed hard to make sure we continued to be there for the young people, and coming through the other side, after a year indoors, we’ve been getting outdoors and going on adventures as much as we can.
Our priorities now are to provide as much adventure as we possible can and seek out new an never done before opportunities for our Scout Group. We’re on the look out for people and places that can help us to make giant leaps with this goal, so if you know someone, or can help, please get in touch.
