Why volunteer?
It’s fun
We’re a group that knows how to have lots of fun! We’re a very active and busy group, but we’re like one big family working together and able to have a laugh together and with each-other.
Do new things & learn new skills
Scouts is not just for the kids! there are lots of opportunities also for leaders to take part in activities and develop skills. Some people choose to become skills instructors and teach others.
Meet new people
Scouting provides many opportunities for adults to meet people with similar interests. You’ll develop positive social relationships with other adults in the group, this is part of our culture, but you’ll also have opportunities to meet people from other groups at events and activities.
You’ll be doing good
The young people we support at Preston Central are some of the young people who will get the most out of Scouting.
You will be a big part of their youth and their relationship with Scouting, and will helping them to grow and develop as young people.
What do volunteers do?
There are lots of roles that volunteers can do in our group, here are just a few, but we’re big on flexible volunteering.
Help with activities
We run weekly activity sessions for young people on Monday and Thursday. Lots of our volunteers get involved, either with planning, giving the children a helping hand or leading the activities.
Our volunteers do as little or as much as works for them
Help with organising / admin
Not everyone wants to get involved with running activities. Some people like to help with organise people, look after the records or track the money.
Support trips & events
There are lots of things to do for weekends away, days out and trips away from the main building. We’re always looking for help with –
- Looking after kit and equipment
- Helping to plan menu’s & prepare food.
- Driving a van or minibus.
Trusteeship
Trustee’s help look after the business of the group. They make sure policies, procedures and process’s are in-place to meet the requirements laid down by HQ and the law.
